Major Road Repair Milestone Achieved in Ukraine

According to Главком: As of May 1, Ukraine has finished restoration work on its international highways, with more than 7.2 million square meters of road surface repaired-exceeding the planned target by 4%. This update comes from Oleksiy Kuleba, the Minister for Communities and Territories Development. The focus was on critical logistics routes and international corridors, where the bulk of the work has now been completed. Repairs began in February, and by April, the pace of operations had accelerated by 50% compared to March.

Upcoming Road Repair Targets

In mid-April, it was reported that over 4.4 million square meters of road surface had been fixed since the start of the year. The goal is to bring the total repaired area to more than 10 million square meters by June 1. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously stated that 52 billion hryvnias are needed for road repairs.

Over the past 2.5 years, 4,215 public procurement procedures have been conducted, with 383 business entities emerging as winners. Among these, 36 companies in the sample are municipal enterprises. The winners include:

  • 15 branches of regional road maintenance authorities
  • One branch of the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine

The value of procurement for road repair (CPV 45233142-6) amounts to 12.2 billion hryvnias, representing 96% of the total sum. Spending on road works under code CPV 45233140-2 reached 741.7 million hryvnias, while road maintenance (CPV 45233141-9) accounted for 48.8 million hryvnias.

Oleksiy Kuleba stated: 'We are now moving to national roads and sections that require comprehensive restoration. By June 1, we plan to bring the total volume of repaired road surface to over 10 million square meters.'

The main repaired routes include:

  • Kyiv-Chop (M-06)
  • Kyiv-Kharkiv-Dovzhanskyi (M-03)
  • Kyiv-Kovel-Yahodyn (M-07)
  • Lviv-Krakowets (M-10)
  • Odesa-Reni (M-15)
  • Stryi-Uman-Dnipro-Izvarine (M-30)

This road repair initiative is a key step toward enhancing Ukraine's transport infrastructure, which in turn supports economic growth and improves freight efficiency. With plans to achieve significant repair volumes by early summer, regional activity is intensifying, positively impacting the overall condition of the road network. These efforts underscore the importance of ensuring safety and comfort for drivers and passengers alike.

As Ukraine continues its ambitious road repair initiative, it is notable that by mid-April, nearly half of the annual repair target had already been achieved. This progress underscores the government's commitment to enhancing road infrastructure, which is vital for logistics and transportation.
