In Ukraine, the rules for checking cannabis prescriptions have changed

Ukraine has successfully completed the integration of systems for controlling the circulation of medical cannabis. This will ensure transparency and control over the circulation of cannabis-based preparations in the country.

The purpose of the integration is to ensure that medical cannabis medications are dispensed only with the correct electronic prescriptions registered in the healthcare system. Each electronic prescription is automatically checked upon the entry of medicine information.

“The integration of these two systems is an important step towards a transparent and safe circulation of medical cannabis in Ukraine. Now every prescription for cannabis medications is checked automatically, which eliminates the risk of abuse and guarantees that such medications are dispensed only to those patients to whom they were genuinely prescribed by a doctor,” notes Maria Karchovich, Deputy Minister of Health for Digital Development.

Data exchange for controlling the circulation of medical cannabis

During the accounting of the production or dispensing of cannabis-based medication in a pharmacy, the staff enters information about the corresponding electronic prescription. The system automatically checks for the presence of the electronic prescription to ensure the exchange of information about prescriptions and their actual dispensing in the pharmacy.

After the completion of the technical integration process of systems for controlling the circulation of medical cannabis in Ukraine, automatic verification of each prescription for cannabis medications is ensured, which increases safety and trust in this type of treatment.
