Resignation of Vasyl Malyuk

According to ХВИЛЯ: Vasyl Malyuk, head of the Security Service of Ukraine, may announce his resignation on January 5. Currently, there is no necessary number of votes in the Verkhovna Rada to adopt this decision, as 226 votes from deputies are required for the resignation.

The possibility of Vasyl Malyuk transitioning to another position was discussed with President Volodymyr Zelensky. Options for appointing him were considered:

  • head of the Foreign Intelligence Service;
  • secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

These changes are related to the recent appointment of Oleg Ivashchenko to the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), which freed up a position in the Foreign Intelligence Service (SZR).

Possible candidates for the head of the SSU position

One of Vasyl Malyuk's deputies, particularly Oleksandr Poklad, was also considered for the head of the SSU position. The reasons for the possible dismissal of Malyuk have not yet been explained by deputies from the 'Servant of the People' party. The situation regarding the resignation remains tense, and further developments will depend on the positions of the deputies and their readiness to support this decision.

The resignation of Vasyl Malyuk could significantly impact Ukraine's internal politics and the work of law enforcement agencies in the context of current security challenges. Observers are already paying attention to how these personnel changes could affect cooperation with international partners and internal reforms in the security sector.
