Important Changes in Labor Legislation: What Awaits Ukrainians at the Beginning of 2024

According to ХВИЛЯ: The end of the year in Ukraine is accompanied by important legislative changes, particularly regarding the reservation of military personnel, sick leave payments, and the protection of illegally dismissed workers' rights. The last week of December 2023 brought new provisions that could significantly impact labor relations in the country.

Key Legislative Changes

One of the key topics is the critical status of enterprises and the reservation of military personnel. According to the new regulations, the prolongation of the critical enterprise status does not occur automatically. In this case, the enterprise must independently reserve employees in the Diia app, as emphasized by platform experts.

Sick leave payments have also been revised. A 100% sick leave payment is granted only if the insured person has more than 8 years of insurance experience. This information has been confirmed by analysts who highlighted the importance of insurance experience for receiving maximum payments.

It is also worth noting the protection of rights in cases of illegal dismissal. On December 25, 2023, Law No. 4697 was signed, which regulates the issue of continuity of experience for individuals reinstated at work by court decision. The rights of illegally dismissed workers are restored upon reinstatement by counting the period of illegal dismissal towards their insurance experience, as noted by representatives of Kadroland.

  • Changes regarding the employment of persons with disabilities will come into effect on January 1, 2026.
  • The recommended deadline for approving the vacation schedule expires on January 5, 2024.
  • The norm for working hours in January 2024 will be 176 hours.

Thus, Ukrainians are facing significant changes in labor legislation at the beginning of 2024, and both employers and employees should be prepared for new working conditions.

These changes in labor legislation aim to adapt the labor market to new economic and social conditions in Ukraine, particularly in the context of war. It is important for both employers and employees to be informed about the new norms and rules, as this will affect their labor relations and rights. The implementation of these changes could contribute to improving working conditions and protecting workers' rights in the country.
