Easter Ceasefire Shattered: Russia Attacks Wounded Ukrainian Soldiers During Evacuation
The Frontline Situation and the Ceasefire
According to Главком: On April 11th at approximately 5:30 PM near the settlement of Huliaipilske, a group of wounded Ukrainian soldiers came under attack during their evacuation. The enemy used FPV drones, a clear violation of the declared ceasefire. This attack underscores the fragile and often violated nature of such temporary truces in the ongoing conflict. Earlier, the Head of the President's Office, Kyrylo Budanov, had expressed skepticism about the Easter truce, stating that, unfortunately, a lasting peace 'will not happen' and that the pause would likely be temporary.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported a significant number of violations of the supposed silence regime. After 4:00 PM, a total of 469 incidents were recorded, including:
- 22 assault actions;
- 153 artillery strikes;
- 19 strikes by kamikaze drones (Lancet and Molniya models);
- 275 strikes by FPV drones.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin had ordered the implementation of an Easter ceasefire, which was scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM on April 11th and last until the end of the day on April 12th, 2026. Kyrylo Budanov further commented on the situation, noting:
"It's worth remembering that this has happened before. There was a similar one-day Easter truce. It was violated many times but was still mostly observed. I think nothing will change, and it will be the same today." - Kyrylo Budanov
These events once again confirm the complexity of the frontline situation and the risks associated with adhering to any ceasefire. Despite the announced truce, the documented violations and attacks demonstrate that the conflict remains intense, and peace initiatives are frequently disregarded. This highlights the persistent uncertainty and danger of the situation in eastern Ukraine, where declared pauses in fighting rarely hold.
The recent escalation of violence during the supposed Easter ceasefire raises significant questions about the effectiveness of such temporary measures.
