How Veterans Can Apply for Mandatory Auto Insurance

According to Главком: A new initiative allows veterans to obtain compulsory car insurance without spending a penny of their own money. The program combines a government subsidy covering 50% of the policy cost with an equal discount provided by the insurer. Accessible through the Diia mobile app, this benefit has already been used by tens of thousands of veterans since its launch. The application deadline has been extended, particularly for policies issued in early 2025.

Eligibility Requirements for the Program

To take part, individuals must hold a verified veteran certificate within the Diia app-specifically as a combat veteran or a person with a war-related disability. Additional conditions include:

  • being at least 18 years old;
  • having a verified taxpayer registration number (RNOCPP);
  • signing a motor third-party liability insurance contract that applies the veteran discount;
  • not using the vehicle for commercial purposes;
  • owning a car with an engine displacement of up to 2,500 cc or an electric motor with a power output of up to 100 kW.

The entire insurance application process is handled online through the Diia app. Users simply open the app, navigate to the Veteran PRO section, select the Auto Liability Compensation service, and create or choose a Diia Card to receive the funds. After submitting the request, applicants must wait for the results, as all data is verified automatically.

This compensation program for auto insurance was approved by the Council and is designed to support veterans who need assistance with vehicle coverage. Filing a European accident report (Europrotocol) is now also possible via the Diia app, making the process even more convenient for participants.

This initiative represents a crucial step in supporting veterans, addressing their needs for financial aid and road safety.

By integrating the program into the Diia mobile app, veterans can quickly and easily access essential services, strengthening their social protections. The rollout also underscores the government’s commitment to those who have defended the country, offering them additional tools for reintegration into civilian life.

In addition to the car insurance initiative, the Diia app recently introduced a feature that enables veterans to verify their registry data. This new service streamlines the process for veterans, ensuring they can easily manage their information and access benefits. Understanding how to navigate these tools can significantly enhance the support available to those who have served.
