The explosion occurred in the inner courtyard of the city's district police station No. 1 shortly after 3:30 p.m. on August 31, 2026.
The deceased has been identified as Mykola Omelchuk, 47, a police lieutenant colonel who served as deputy head of the department. Three other officers - a directorate chief, another deputy, and a divisional inspector - sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized. Rivne is a regional administrative center in western Ukraine.
