Record Tourist Surge in Spain: Why September is No Longer a Low Season

Vacation in Spain in Autumn
Липневий бум в Іспанії: чому вересень став новим піком туристичних відвідин

In 2025, Spain recorded an extraordinary increase in the number of foreign tourists. In just seven months, the number of arrivals reached 55.5 million, with July seeing a record 11 million. This has changed the tourist season in the country, making September less peaceful for vacationing under the Spanish sun.

There is also a change in the private plans of Spaniards. They are visiting resorts less in August, choosing to take vacations in September instead. Hotel prices in the Canary Islands, which serve as an indicator of tourism, are soaring. International tourists, on average, spend 1490 euros per week on trips - in July, this amount totaled 16.5 billion euros.

Hotel and apartment prices in the Canary Islands, viewed as a barometer of Spanish tourism, rose by 5.3% between September 2023 and 2024. They are currently approximately 25% higher than in 2019.

However, there have been issues in the air transport sector. Ryanair canceled over 40 flights to Spain due to a dispute over airport fees, blaming Aena for excessive demands.

Travel to Spain is becoming increasingly popular, resulting in a record number of foreign tourists. The tourist season in the country is changing, and hotel prices in the resort islands are rapidly rising. New vacation trends are already felt among Spaniards, who also prefer vacations in September. However, problems with air transport are also impacting the country's tourism industry.
