The war costs Ukraine 172 million dollars a day: details of the budget-2026

Ukraine spends 31% of its gross domestic product on military needs, which is the highest rate in the world. This was reported by the people's deputy of Ukraine, head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Budget Issues Roksolana Pidlasa.

The costs of conducting the war have significantly increased: last year, one day cost the state 140 million dollars, but now this amount has risen to 172 million dollars per day. To cover the budget deficit for the next year, according to government estimates, it is necessary to attract an additional 16 billion euros.

'According to our estimates, according to the Ministry of Defense's estimates, the needs to ensure the defense of Ukraine amount to 120 billion dollars per year. Of these, 60 billion dollars must be covered by the state budget, that is, in fact, by our taxes, fees, and internal borrowings, while 60 billion dollars will be, at least, the Ministry of Defense will work to ensure that military assistance in kind amounts to 60 billion dollars,' Pidlasa noted.

The main priority of the state budget for the next year will be to meet defense needs, the people's deputy confirmed. Social standards will not be lowered, and certain indicators, such as teachers' salaries, should increase. At the same time, until the active hostilities are completed, the state budget of Ukraine cannot be balanced and will depend on the financial support of international partners.

Ukraine spends a record share of GDP on military needs, indicating the importance of state defense in current conditions. The increase in defense spending reflects the necessity to strengthen security in the country, as well as emphasizes the importance of international aid for restoring economic stability in Ukraine.
