In response to ongoing Russian threats against vital systems, Ukraine is rolling out a comprehensive plan to safeguard its water supply networks. The government has approved nationwide resilience strategies focused on several key areas:

• physical hardening of critical water infrastructure,

• expansion of decentralized energy generation,
• development of alternative water supply routes.

As part of the EU4Green Recovery East program, the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development has selected pilot communities to test modern water supply and wastewater management approaches. Three utilities have been chosen for technical assessment: Pustomytyvodokanal, Drohobychvodokanal, and Kremenchukvodokanal.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Russia is shifting its attack tactics, posing new risks to the stability of Ukraine’s water systems.
