Death of Pasha Kasanov

According to Главком: On December 31, 2023, it became known about the death of Pasha Kasanov, a legend of Vinnytsia football, at the age of 73. Kasanov was the captain of the Vinnytsia football team 'Niva' for many years and made a significant mark in the club's history. He moved to Vinnytsia from Mykolaiv in 1976 and played for 'Niva' for over ten years, during which he appeared in more than 500 games and scored 127 goals.

In 1984, 'Niva' under his leadership won the championship of the Ukrainian zone in the Second League. Kasanov was twice included in the list of the 22 best football players of Ukraine and received the title of master of sports. After ending his playing career in the 1990s, he held various positions in the club, including coach, president, and executive director of 'Niva'. Since 2012, Kasanov worked at the children's and youth sports school 'Niva – Svitank'.

Vitalii Rymaruk’s Death

Against the backdrop of this loss, it also became known about the death of the titled Ukrainian athlete Vitalii Rymaruk, who died at the front. Rymaruk, who was 26 years old, was the champion of Ukraine among youth and a prizewinner of the adult championship. He left behind a wife and a small daughter, serving as an officer of the 1st combat group of the 4th special forces unit and died in the Pokrovsk direction (Donetsk region). The death of both athletes was a significant loss for Ukrainian sports.

The deaths of Pasha Kasanov and Vitalii Rymaruk reflect the deep losses that Ukrainian sports are experiencing in times of war and instability. Kasanov was not only an outstanding athlete but also an important figure in the development of football in Vinnytsia, while Rymaruk became a victim of the war, defending his country. Both cases highlight the importance of remembering the contribution of athletes to national culture and their heroism in difficult times for Ukraine.
