Transportation costs in Kyiv will amount to 12000 UAH for medical workers and educators from the region

Medical workers commuting daily from Bila Tserkva to Kyiv may spend on transport over 12000 UAH per month. The calculation accounts for intercity buses, Kyiv public transport, and up to 22 working shifts. This is reported by TSN.ua.

Transportation expenses to Kyiv: how the amount of 12000 UAH was obtained

Honored doctor of Ukraine Olga Golubovska cited the example of a medical worker commuting from Bila Tserkva. A bus ticket to the capital costs about 250 UAH one way, which means 500 UAH for the round trip.

In Kyiv, the worker additionally needs to get from the bus station to the hospital. A transfer ticket in public transport costs 60 UAH, and if needed, a minibus ride adds another approximately 25 UAH.

In this scenario, the expenses exceed 600 UAH for one shift. Over 20 working days, this is at least 12000 UAH, and for 22 shifts the amount could be even higher.

«For many, this amount is comparable to their monthly salary. It turns out that a person works just to be able to get to work,» Golubovska noted.

This calculation does not apply to all medical and educational workers in Kyiv region. Actual expenses depend on the locality, carrier, number of transfers, working shifts, and available travel passes.

Increase in transport prices: why the expert predicts layoffs

Transport expert Oleksandr Hrechko stated that nurses, attendants, and other workers in state hospitals do not have any separate benefits for traveling. The situation is particularly difficult for those who commute to the capital from the region every day.

According to him, with the beginning of the school year, similar expenses will be felt by teachers, educators, researchers, and librarians. Regular trips could become critical for employees with low salaries.

Hrechko believes that some people will have to quit, change jobs, or look for housing closer to the capital. This could exacerbate the staff shortage in hospitals and educational institutions in Kyiv.

At the same time, the forecast of mass layoffs is the expert's assessment. No official statistics confirming a wave of layoffs specifically due to transportation costs have been publicized yet.

Recall that on the night of August 5, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, specifically targeting the capital region. As a result of the attacks in Kyiv region, 14 people were killed, including eight passengers waiting for a train at the Kvitneva station in Brovary district.
