Car owners with old license plates face problems: what to do right now
According to hvylya.net: Ukrainian car owners with old license plates have a hard time – bureaucratic obstacles can delay the re-registration process and even complicate insurance. Experts advise not to postpone the replacement of outdated plates for new ones, to avoid further problems.
In particular, the emergence of difficulties with re-registration, car sales, and issuing online insurance policies. This was stated by the author of the video on the YouTube channel 'AutoTheme'.
'Today I will tell you what exactly you might have a problem with related to license plates. Why? What is the problem? And I will tell you: re-registration of the car, registration - there can be problems with everything just because of the plates,' the video author emphasizes.
Problems arising from old plates

Inability to re-register. Such plates cannot be assigned to another car or kept in paid storage at the Ministry of Internal Affairs service center.

Difficulties with car sales. It's impossible to carry out a full re-registration of the vehicle to a new owner without prior replacement of the license plate.

Insurance problems. It won't be possible to issue an online insurance policy for a car with an old license plate since electronic systems do not recognize it. The only option is to physically contact an insurance agent.
How to identify outdated license plates
There are two main types of plates issued before 2015:

Plates from before 2004. These are five-digit plates with a two-letter series and the Ukrainian flag on the left.

Soviet-style plates (issued until 1995, but still encountered). Consist of Cyrillic letters and numbers (for example, one letter, four digits, two letters).
The modern standard license plate has a blue stripe with the Ukrainian flag and the code UA, two letters of the region code, four digits, and two letters of the series.
Why it is important to replace old plates on time
The expert emphasizes the importance of timely replacement of old plates to avoid congestion at government offices in the future.
'It is really necessary to change the plates now, while there is no rush. Because if these old plates are completely canceled, the queues will be even bigger, and there will be real, very tough hype just because of the plates,' warns the expert.
Urgent replacement of outdated plates will allow drivers to save time and avoid unnecessary worries when dealing with a car.
