Military airfield Marynivka and a Perm oil refinery were both targeted by Ukrainian drone strikes overnight.
Ukrainian drone operations target strategic Russian infrastructure
According to ХВИЛЯ: The night before this article's publication saw multiple high-value sites in Russia hit by Ukrainian long-range drones. Among the targets were a Perm oil refinery, the Marynivka military airfield in Volgograd Oblast, and unspecified objectives in the Black Sea. President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged these actions on social media, framing them as a crucial part of Ukraine's wartime strategy.
One of the strikes disabled infrastructure at the LUKOIL-Permnefteorgsintez plant, one of Russia's largest petroleum refineries and situated more than 1,600 kilometers from Ukraine's border. Satellite data from NASA FIRMS showed two separate fire sources at the facility, with footage of the blaze distributed by the monitoring outlet Exilenova+. A separate attack targeted the Marynivka airfield in Volgograd Oblast.
Aftermath and presidential remarks
Zelensky also pointed to earlier operations, including damage inflicted on a Russian Su-34 fighter at Akhtubinsk airfield, roughly 600 kilometers from the front line. He added that in Primorsko-Akhtarsk, about 180 kilometers from the combat zone, a facility used for storing, preparing, and launching attack drones – the very type employed against Ukrainian civilians – was also struck.
'We keep using our long-range sanctions to return the consequences of war to those who started it. Last night, our deep strikes hit the refinery at Perm, over 1,600 kilometers from the border, and also the Marynivka military airfield in the Volgograd area. There were also results in the Black Sea waters.' - Volodymyr Zelensky
These attacks demonstrate Ukraine's ongoing campaign of deep strikes against Russian military and economic assets, aiming to degrade Moscow's ability to sustain the war. The long distances involved also signal a marked growth in Ukrainian drone capabilities. As the situation evolves, such operations could provoke further escalation, warranting close attention to both frontline developments and broader bilateral tensions.
'I thank all units of our Defense Forces for their precision and accuracy. Glory to Ukraine!' - Volodymyr Zelensky
In a similar series of operations, Ukrainian forces recently targeted the Saratov Refinery and Engels Airfield, highlighting the ongoing strategy to disrupt critical Russian military infrastructure.
