According to glavcom.ua: The World Health Organization calls for action to combat the epidemic of the chikungunya virus, which is spread by mosquitoes. Special attention is given to the risk of new outbreaks in the Indian Ocean region. This infection has already infected more than 5.6 billion people in 119 countries and is accompanied by high fever, joint pain, and prolonged disability.

“We see history repeating itself,” emphasized Diana Rojas Alvarez, a WHO medical worker.

The last outbreak of the virus occurred in the islands of the Indian Ocean at the end of 2025 and is now spreading to other regions, including Madagascar, Somalia, Kenya, and Southeast Asia, including India. The emergency alarm was triggered by the transmission of the virus in Europe, where cases have already been reported in France and Italy.

Prevention and spread of the virus

The chikungunya virus has no specific treatment, so it is important to take preventive measures such as using repellents and wearing long sleeves, as these mosquitoes usually bite during the day. The problem is exacerbated by the virus's resistance to treatment and limited diagnostic capabilities, complicating the fight against the infection.

The situation with the chikungunya epidemic is serious, as the virus spreads rapidly and can lead to serious health consequences. It is important to remember preventive measures and timely diagnosis to prevent the spread of the infection.
