Everything is over: Oleksandr Usyk made a statement about his future in boxing

Oleksandr Usyk confirmed his intention to hold one more fight and retire from professional boxing afterward. The Ukrainian boxer admitted that he is exhausted from many years of training and wants to spend more time with his wife and children. He shared this in an interview with The Athletic.

Oleksandr Usyk named his last fight in his career

Usyk noted that he is preparing for his "last dance" in the ring. According to the 39-year-old athlete, the decision is not related to losing interest in boxing, but the years of preparation and fights are taking their toll.

"I think my last fight awaits me. We have lived in this sport for a long time, so it is very hard to say: ‘For me, everything is over’. But when you spend a lot of time working, your body gets tired. I do too. I’m not iron, I’m not an alien," Usyk said.

He added that family is important to him. The boxer has sons and daughters, so after finishing his active performances, he wants to spend more time with his loved ones.

In June, Usyk vacated the WBC, WBA, and IBF titles. At that time, he emphasized that the refusal of titles does not mean an immediate end to his career: the athlete planned one more big fight. This was confirmed by The Guardian.

Usyk's fight with Deontay Wilder has not been announced yet

The most likely opponent for the Ukrainian is American Deontay Wilder. The teams of the boxers are discussing this option, but the contract, date, venue, and promoter of the fight have not been publicly confirmed yet.

In July, it was reported that negotiations for the fight are at an advanced stage. Usyk's team explored other options, but Wilder is considered the priority opponent for the Ukrainian’s final performance. Tribuna reported that the fight may take place at the end of 2026 in the USA.

Usyk remains undefeated in the professional ring: 25 wins, including 16 by knockout. Throughout his career, he has been the undisputed champion in the Cruiserweight and Heavyweight divisions. Therefore, his last fight, regardless of the opponent, will be one of the main events in global boxing.
