According to ХВИЛЯ: Serhiy Kovalenko, the CEO of energy company YASNO, has urged Ukrainians to adopt a pragmatic and realistic outlook regarding the country's energy situation. In an interview with Ukrinform, he advised the public to prepare for a worst-case scenario and to hold onto their power banks and charging stations. Kovalenko noted that those who kept such equipment last year found the winter of 2025-2026 easier to manage, underscoring the critical value of advance preparation for potential hardships.

Kovalenko also clarified his stance on discussing the nation's energy challenges.

'I am not a proponent of blind optimism, where 'everything will be perfect tomorrow.' Nor do I subscribe to the view that 'everything will be terrible, and we will all perish.' I strive to keep myself and the sphere I influence-my family, my work-in a state of pragmatic realism,' he stated.

This approach, he explained, is essential for accurately assessing the situation and preparing for possible difficulties.

Measures for Consumers

Furthermore, YASNO has warned consumers that strict measures will be enforced in cases of accumulated debt for electricity, highlighting the seriousness of the situation within the energy sector. Kovalenko likened preparing for winter to purchasing an insurance policy:

'I have a good analogy with life insurance. When you pay for insurance, you don't expect to use it-you don't plan to get sick. You buy it so that if it does happen, you can get through that period of illness as easily as possible. It's the same with preparing for winter: we proceed from the possibility that things could be bad, and we get ready.'

Therefore, Kovalenko's calls for pragmatic realism and preparation are aimed at ensuring stability and mitigating risks for consumers amid an unstable energy landscape. His statements come as Ukraine's energy grid continues to face immense strain from ongoing conflict.
