YouTube Unveils AI Search and Shorts Editing via Gemini Omni
YouTube’s Latest AI-Powered Features
According to Главком: At the Google I/O 2026 conference, YouTube announced several new features driven by artificial intelligence. The highlights include the launch of the Ask YouTube search tool and the integration of the Gemini Omni video generation model into the Shorts format. Ask YouTube functions similarly to AI Mode in Google Search or a chat with Gemini, and will be available to YouTube Premium subscribers in the United States who are 18 years or older.
What Gemini Omni Can Do
Integrated into Shorts Remix, Gemini Omni allows users to edit video and audio using simple text commands. Specifically, this model enables users to:
- change the background;
- alter the video style;
- insert themselves into the frame;
- create clips with a 90s aesthetic.
With these tools, users can produce more original content by leveraging artificial intelligence.
Additionally, any video created or modified using AI will carry a special label and a link to the original video. This ensures viewers can easily identify content generated through these new technologies. Channel owners will also have the option to prevent others from remixing their Shorts, giving them greater control over their work. Google confirmed that Gemini Omni Flash is now available in Gemini, YouTube Shorts, and the Flow service, opening up new creative possibilities on the platform.
The rollout of AI-based features like Ask YouTube and Gemini Omni underscores YouTube’s commitment to staying at the forefront of content innovation and user engagement.
These updates have the potential to significantly transform how people create and consume video content, offering more opportunities for creativity and interaction. They also highlight the importance of responsible technology use, as labeling AI-generated content helps maintain transparency in media consumption.
