YouTube’s Updated Monetization Policy

According to НВ — Техно: As of July 16, 2026, YouTube has clarified its monetization rules for participants in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), specifically targeting three types of inauthentic content that will no longer generate revenue. This significant update affects creators who rely on artificial intelligence tools and other technologies to produce videos. The policy shift reflects the platform’s ongoing efforts to balance innovation with content authenticity.

Categories of Inauthentic Content

Under the new guidelines, the following categories of inauthentic content are now ineligible for monetization:

  • Template-based, repetitive, or uniform videos created using artificial intelligence, computer graphics, or pre-made templates.
  • Content designed to provoke negative emotions or deliberately manipulate viewers to boost view counts.
  • AI-generated characters that mimic real individuals and discuss sensitive topics such as finance, law, and medicine.

If a channel contains an excessive number of videos falling into any of these three categories, it will lose the ability to earn revenue through the YouTube Partner Program. According to Matt Halprin, a YouTube representative,

“educational videos could also fall under this rule if they simply replicate content already widespread on the platform rather than offering original material.”

Halprin further emphasized that

“artificial intelligence itself is not banned”

and that “this technology helps create more high-quality content, and it is precisely such videos that the platform supports.”

These new monetization rules place a strong emphasis on uniqueness and originality, which could significantly alter video creation strategies for many content producers. The changes have certainly drawn attention from the community, as they will impact the earnings of those using automated tools. Amid the growing use of artificial intelligence in content production, these regulations may serve as a crucial signal for adapting strategies and approaches to video creation on the platform.
