Maximum import electricity capacity

According to ХВИЛЯ: Starting from January 1, 2026, Ukraine will have access to the maximum import capacity of electricity from the European Union, which will increase to a record 2450 MW. This increase of 300 MW will be made possible by the cooperation of NEK 'Ukrenergo' with European organizations ENTSO-E and TSCnet. The increasing capacities of electricity imports have a positive impact on the stabilization of the country's energy system, especially under cold conditions and threats from Russian attacks.

Historical context and future plans

It should be noted that in February 2022, Ukraine was operating in isolation, and by March of the same year, an emergency synchronization with the European energy system was carried out. From 2023 to 2024, a gradual opening of commercial interconnections with the possibility of importing electricity at a level of 100 MW is planned. From January 2026, the import capacity will reach 2450 MW, which will be an important step towards ensuring Ukraine's energy security.

Experts emphasize that the increase in technical capacity for electricity imports in Ukraine is undoubtedly a positive change that will ensure greater stability of the energy system in critical conditions.

The growth of electricity import capacities is an important stage in the development of Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which will facilitate the country's integration into European energy markets. This will not only strengthen energy security but also enhance the competitiveness of the Ukrainian economy in the face of global challenges.

Importantly, such cooperation with European partners opens up new opportunities for modernizing the energy sector and reducing dependence on traditional energy sources.
