Birth of children in Kyiv 2026
З початку року в Києві з'явилося на світ понад 11 тисяч малюків.

Despite everything, children are being born: the capital has become a leader among all regions of the country in the number of newborns in 2026

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: Despite the ongoing full-scale war and deep demographic crisis, children continue to be born in Ukraine. From January to July 2026, the highest number of newborns among Ukrainian cities was recorded in Kyiv - 11,421 children. July was a record month: 1,949 infants were born in Kyiv, and a total of 4,100 children were born in Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, and Dnipro.

According to official data, during the specified period, Lviv registered 5,506 newborns, Odesa - 4,145, and Dnipro - 3,361. Kyiv leads the list of cities by the number of newborns in the first seven months of 2026. An analysis of monthly birth rates shows that in January, 1,758 children were born in Kyiv, in February - 1,567, in March - 1,691, in April - 1,673, in May - 1,751, in June - 1,756, and in July - 1,949.

The figure for July 2026 in the four cities exceeded the figures of any of the previous months of 2026 by almost 500 children. According to the capital's maternity hospitals, a high number of births were recorded at the beginning of August 2026. For example, in the Lelyka maternity hospital in Kyiv, 14 babies were born over the past weekend, which is almost twice the average figures for the same period in 2026.

These data indicate that despite the challenging circumstances, Ukrainian families continue to grow with new members.

The increase in the number of newborns in Kyiv may indicate certain positive trends amidst the war and economic instability. This may be a result of social support programs for families, as well as the desire of families to create new generations even in difficult conditions. It is important to pay attention to further trends in birth rates, as they may influence the demographic situation in the country as a whole.
