The incident occurred at 23:17 on March 11th when the victim disregarded a red signal and walked onto the tracks. He sustained injuries incompatible with life and died at the scene. Railway safety is a persistent concern in Ukraine, where infrastructure often dates from the Soviet era.

Investigators from the Bucha District Police Department have launched a pre-trial investigation under Part 3 of Article 276 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This case is not isolated, as recent months have seen similar tragedies:

  • In December of last year, a 17-year-old boy died after jumping from the platform onto the tracks and being hit by an electric train in Vyshneve, Kyiv region.
  • On December 18th, an 18-year-old girl from Khmelnytskyi region, who was studying in Vinnytsia, was killed by a passenger train at the Vinnytsia railway station.

Critical Need for Safety Awareness

These tragic events underscore the vital importance of adhering to railway safety rules. Ignoring signals and trespassing on tracks can have lethal consequences, highlighting a need for increased public education on the dangers posed by rail infrastructure. The frequency of such incidents suggests a broader societal issue requiring targeted intervention.

Law enforcement and railway authorities must collaborate to reduce the number of these tragic cases in the future.
