Roman Kalish Killed in Action
According to Главком: Roman Kalish, a former member of the Radical Party, has been killed while defending Ukraine. Party leader Oleg Lyashko confirmed his death. Kalish, who served in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel, died from a drone strike on the front lines during the ongoing full-scale war. His death underscores the heavy toll the conflict continues to take on Ukrainian society.
In a statement, Oleg Lyashko, who also serves in the military, noted that Kalish had re-enlisted when the war began and fought for his country with a weapon in his hands.
“Eternal memory to the Hero.”
Oleg Lyashko
Oleg Lyashko currently serves in the unmanned systems battalion of the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade, where he has held the position of battalion commander since 2025. He holds the Order of Merit, 3rd class, and the rank of senior lieutenant. This tragedy highlights the profound losses the nation is enduring.
A Shared Struggle for Independence
A 2014 photograph, showing Oleg Lyashko and Roman Kalish raising the Ukrainian state flag on the SBU building in Sloviansk, serves as a reminder of their shared struggle for Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity. The image has gained renewed poignancy following Kalish's death.
Kalish's death is another stark confirmation of the war's severe consequences for Ukraine, which continues to lose its heroes in the fight for freedom. Recalling the past alliance of Kalish and Lyashko in the context of their joint activities illustrates how personal stories merge into a broader national narrative of resistance. This loss also emphasizes the importance of moral support and honoring the memory of those who have given their lives for their country.
