Honoring the Memory of Dmytro Popko
According to Главком: Every morning at 9 AM, Ukrainians observe a moment of silence for all those whose lives have been taken by the Russian-Ukrainian war. Today, we remember Dmytro Popko, a defender of Ukraine and a graduate of the Faculty of Psychology at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, who lost his life in this conflict.
Dmytro’s Life and Service
Dmytro Popko earned his bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Psychology in 2023. From the very start of the full-scale invasion, he volunteered to defend Ukraine. During combat, he sustained severe injuries: a wound to his arm, as well as poisoning from gas and phosphorus bombs. After being wounded, he lay in the dirt for nearly a full day. As a result of his injuries, his right arm was amputated, and he underwent numerous surgeries.
Following his treatment, Dmytro returned to the university community and continued his studies in a master's program. In 2025, he received his master's degree in psychology, specializing in the Neuropsychology program. His life exemplified true service to Ukraine, embodying dignity, courage, and inner strength. His death is a profound loss for the Faculty of Psychology at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, the professional community, and everyone who knew him.
Glavcom joins the moment of silence, honoring the memory of Dmytro Popko and all those who gave their lives for Ukraine.
Remembering Dmytro Popko is not only a tribute to his sacrifice but also a reminder of the countless lives Ukrainians are losing in the fight for independence. His story underscores the critical need for psychological support and rehabilitation for soldiers returning from the front lines, as well as the importance of preserving the memory of those who died defending their country. Dmytro has become a symbol of the unbreakable Ukrainian spirit, and his legacy will continue to inspire younger generations to serve their homeland.
As we reflect on the sacrifices made by brave individuals like Dmytro Popko, it's essential to recognize the broader context of the conflict. Another poignant story of heroism is that of Master Sergeant Tarik, who valiantly defended Donetsk Airport and ultimately paid the ultimate price. His experiences highlight the profound challenges faced by those serving on the front lines and the toll it takes on their lives and families.
