Police at the checkpoint demanded bribes of up to 20 thousand UAH: The State Bureau of Investigation completed the investigation
Police officers stationed at the checkpoint demanded bribes from drivers, creating unpleasant situations for those who fell into their hands. According to the information from the State Bureau of Investigation, amounts ranging from 7 to 20 thousand hryvnias were demanded on the spot or they suggested making a bank transfer. Drivers, frightened by the possibility of losing their licenses, were forced to pay as there was no other way out.
Bribes were taken in cash or they suggested making a transfer to the card of a former police officer who had already retired. - stated the SBI.
As a result, investigators recorded 14 cases of extortion amounting to over 140 thousand hryvnias.
The SBI completed the investigation and charged the police officers and their accomplices with a crime related to receiving and extorting bribes as part of a criminal group. For these actions, they could face up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. It is also noted that in Lviv region, a drunk driver hit a police officer, and in Rivne region, a tanker collided with a checkpoint, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
