Zaporizhzhia NPP: IAEA disproved the threat to nuclear safety due to smoke
According to glavcom.ua: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that there has been no impact on nuclear safety near the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which is occupied by Russia, following the smoke incidents. Agency officials noted that they observed smoke at the site after reports of a fire near the cooling towers.
«There have been no reports of increased radiation, impact on nuclear safety, or casualties,» confirmed Director General Rafael Grossi.
The Russian leadership of the nuclear power plant is concerned about shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which, they claim, has led to a fire in the area of the plant's hydraulic structures. At the same time, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported smoke in the vicinity of the cargo port in the temporarily occupied area of the plant.
Incidents at the Zaporizhzhia NPP have resulted from a Russian attack that caused damage to the plant's territory. However, the IAEA stated that nuclear safety remains under control and has not been compromised.
