ICRC called to act against the torture of Ukrainian prisoners: what was discussed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Maryana Betza met with the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross Mission in Ukraine, Juan-Pedro Zerrero. The main focus was on the violations of international humanitarian law by the Russian Federation during the war with Ukraine.
'I urge the ICRC to make every effort to ensure access to Ukrainian prisoners of war held by Russia and to stop the practice of executing and torturing Ukrainian soldiers,' Betza emphasized.
The Deputy Minister also expressed gratitude to the ICRC for its work in overcoming the negative consequences of Russian shelling of civilian objects and infrastructure in Ukraine, calling for an expansion of the Committee's activities, especially in frontline areas.
