Convicted of Treason: What the Financial Declaration of MP Khrystenko Reveals
Fedor Khrystenko's Financial Disclosure
According to Главком: Fedor Khrystenko, an independent member of Ukraine's parliament convicted of state treason in 2025, has published his annual asset declaration. The document reveals that he and his family were living in a hotel room in the United Arab Emirates, rented by his wife, Marina. The couple divorced in 2026. His ex-wife owns a 176-square-meter apartment, a storage room, and three parking spaces in Russia, all purchased in 2018.
Financial Details of the Declaration
Khrystenko's declaration states his sole income for 2025 was 4.2 million hryvnias from the sale of movable property, earned by his wife. This likely refers to the sale of a 2019 Land Rover Range Rover. By the end of 2025, he held 140,000 euros, 103,000 US dollars, and 800,000 hryvnias in cash. His 2024 declaration showed savings of 182,000 euros, 203,000 US dollars, and 2.8 million hryvnias. His then-wife, Marina Khrystenko, declared 2.4 million US dollars, 168,000 euros, and 500,000 hryvnias in cash, plus 31,000 hryvnias in a Ukrainian bank account.
In early September 2025, Ukrainian special services returned Khrystenko from the UAE to Ukraine, where he was wanted. He had left the country on February 14, 2022, following instructions from Russian representatives. His contact with Russian officials began in the autumn of 2014, and in March 2022 he was tasked with gathering information on Ukraine's socio-political relations and its international engagements.
According to reports, in August 2024 and February 2025, Fedor Khrystenko met with a Russian handler in Turkey, where he passed on information about Ukraine's domestic political landscape and the Ukrainian president's negotiating positions regarding a settlement of the war. These details of his espionage activities for the Russian Federation have caused significant public outcry. This case highlights the acute sensitivity surrounding treason and espionage in Ukraine during its ongoing war with Russia.
The situation surrounding Fedor Khrystenko underscores the complex political and social context in Ukraine, where issues of state treason and espionage against the backdrop of war with Russia attract particular scrutiny.
Khrystenko's repatriation and his ties to Russian representatives raise questions not only about his personal culpability but also about broader national security vulnerabilities. It also stresses the critical importance of transparency in the financial disclosures of public officials, especially during periods of political instability and conflict.
