Defense Plant Employee Arrested for Espionage, Accused of Leaking Weapons Test Data to Russia
Defense Plant Worker Detained on Suspicion of High Treason
According to Главком: A 56-year-old employee of a defense plant in the Dnipropetrovsk region has been detained on suspicion of high treason. The man, who worked in a classified unit responsible for developing and testing weaponry, is accused of passing information to Russian intelligence services regarding modern weapons trials and the fulfillment of defense contracts. This case highlights the persistent threat of espionage within Ukraine's critical defense sector.
According to investigators, the suspect voluntarily agreed to cooperate with Russian intelligence after being contacted via an encrypted messenger. His recruitment was reportedly facilitated through his son, who is serving a prison sentence in Russia for drug-related crimes. In exchange for promises of his son's amnesty, the man allegedly gathered and transmitted classified details about defense contract execution.
Russian Intelligence Aims and Consequences
The Office of the Prosecutor General and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) state that the detained individual transmitted data concerning the testing of foreign artillery shells and an operational-tactical missile complex. Russian intelligence services sought to obtain the geolocations of high-tech facilities and production zones for potential ballistic strikes. During searches, computers, mobile phones, and electronic storage devices containing technical defense documentation were seized.
The suspect has been formally notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of Ukraine's Criminal Code (high treason). A court has ordered him to be held in custody without the option of bail. In a related development, the SBU also exposed and detained a serviceman from the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who was collaborating with Russian and Belarusian intelligence. Simultaneously, SBU counterintelligence arrested an agent of Russian military intelligence who was adjusting Russian air attacks on Defense Forces in the Pokrovsk direction.

The arrests demonstrate the active efforts of law enforcement agencies to detect and neutralize threats from foreign intelligence services seeking to obtain secret information capable of harming national security. Investigating such cases is critically important for ensuring the integrity of Ukraine's defense mechanisms.
The recent arrest of a defense plant employee underscores the ongoing challenges posed by espionage in Ukraine's military sector. This incident is reminiscent of a similar case where the Ukrainian Security Service apprehended an FSB agent collecting military coordinates in key regions, highlighting the persistent risks faced by the nation’s security apparatus.
