ZAZ becomes the market leader in new buses in August: which brands were purchased by Ukrainians
In August 2026, Ukraine registered 266 buses and minibuses for the first time, which is 3% more than last year. Among the new vehicles, ZAZ became the leader, while among used ones, Mercedes-Benz took the top spot. Previously, ATAMAN held the leadership in new vehicles on the Ukrainian bus market. This is reported by Ukravtoprom.
Which new buses were most often purchased in August 2026
56% of the buses that replenished the Ukrainian vehicle fleet in August were new. This is approximately 149 vehicles. A year ago, the share of new equipment was higher at 61%.
The most popular brand among new buses was ZAZ with 42 first registrations. ATAMAN came in second with 38 vehicles, and ETALON took third place with 32 units.
Thus, the trio of Ukrainian brands accounted for 112 buses, or about three-quarters of all new vehicles registered in August.
The update of the fleet is also happening due to purchases and international aid. In particular, Kyiv has already put new Anadolu Isuzu buses into service in 2026, adapted for transporting passengers with reduced mobility.
Used buses are gaining market share
Among the used buses in August, Mercedes-Benz dominated with 58 registrations. Volkswagen took second place with 12 vehicles, and VDL came in third with 10 units.
Since the beginning of 2026, a total of 1716 vehicles have been added to the Ukrainian bus fleet. This is 4% more than the same eight months of 2025.
However, the market structure has changed significantly. There were 731 new buses, which is 9% less than last year's figure. Meanwhile, the number of used vehicles increased by 15%, reaching 985 units.
Therefore, the overall market growth is primarily driven by used vehicles. They accounted for about 57% of all buses that were first registered in Ukraine from January to August.
It is worth noting that Ukrainian cities are also receiving transport from European partners. Recently, Inkorr reported that Chernivtsi received three buses from Luxembourg.
