Ukraine’s National Basketball Team in the 2027 World Cup Qualifiers

According to Главком: Ukraine’s national basketball team continues its campaign in the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers, but suffered a defeat in the fourth round against Spain. The match ended with a score of 78:64. Despite putting up a fight against a formidable opponent, the Ukrainian players could not secure the desired outcome.

Guard Oleksandr Kovliar delivered a solid performance for Ukraine, scoring 11 points, grabbing 3 rebounds, and dishing out 5 assists. Other players like Lukashov, Voinalovych, and Lypovyi also contributed, but their efforts were not enough to claim victory. The quarter-by-quarter breakdown was 16:9, 12:12, 24:22, and 26:21, all favoring the Spanish side.

Previous Matches and Oleksandr Kovliar’s Performance

Earlier in the qualifiers, Ukraine also lost to Spain in the third round, 66:86. However, the team bounced back in the second round with an 88:71 win over Denmark, and in the first round, they defeated Georgia 79:92. In the game against Georgia, Oleksandr Kovliar had an outstanding performance, scoring 31 points in 37 minutes of play.

Beyond international duties, Kovliar plays for the Montenegrin club Budućnost. He recently appeared in the first game of the Montenegrin league finals, where his team defeated their opponent 104:81. In that match, Kovliar logged 25 minutes, scoring 9 points, collecting 4 rebounds, recording 5 assists, and making 2 steals. However, he also had 5 turnovers and 3 fouls. The finals series currently stands at 1-0 in favor of Budućnost, with the next game scheduled for June 4.

Ukraine’s situation highlights both the challenges on the international stage and the potential of individual players like Oleksandr Kovliar, who continues to perform at a high level for both his club and the national team despite the losses.

It is important that the team continues competing internationally, which can help develop young talent and raise the overall level of play in the country. Upcoming games could be decisive for further progress in the qualifiers and for shaping the team’s future.
