Ukraine Gears Up for Nations League Second Week with Reinforcements

According to Главком: The Ukrainian men’s volleyball team is set to welcome outside hitter Oleh Plotnytskyi and middle blocker Maksym Drozd as they prepare for the second week of the Nations League. Plotnytskyi missed the first week of competition due to documentation issues, while Drozd, though initially listed in the extended roster, was not included in the starting lineup when the tournament began.

Before the second week kicks off, the squad will play a friendly match against the national youth team. All matches will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, where Ukraine is scheduled to compete in four games. The schedule for Ukraine’s second-week matches is as follows:

  • Wednesday, June 24, 5:30 PM – Ukraine vs. Brazil
  • Thursday, June 25, 5:30 PM – Ukraine vs. Italy
  • Friday, June 26, 5:30 PM – Ukraine vs. Canada
  • Sunday, June 28, 2:00 PM – Bulgaria vs. Ukraine

As the second week begins, Ukraine sits in eighth place in the standings with seven points and two victories-against Cuba and China. Dmytro Yanchuk leads the tournament in aces, having scored 13 points from serves. Additionally, Yurii Semeniuk and Illia Kovaliov ranked among the top three individual performers in the first week. The team aims to build on this momentum in the upcoming matches.

Bringing Plotnytskyi and Drozd into the lineup could significantly boost Ukraine’s chances of improving their results in the Nations League. With wins already secured over Cuba and China, maintaining that positive momentum against tough opponents like Brazil and Italy will be crucial. The next matches could prove decisive in helping Ukraine climb the standings and strengthen team morale ahead of key contests.

As Ukraine prepares for its challenging matches ahead, the team's recent victory over Cuba in straight sets highlights their potential. This win not only boosts their confidence but also sets a solid foundation as they aim to tackle formidable opponents like Brazil and Italy in the coming days.
