Demand for cash dollars in Ukraine has fallen 19 times: what has changed

Ukrainians are refusing dollars
Зниження попиту на готівкові долари в Україні: що призвело до змін?

Ukrainians are losing interest in cash dollars – according to new data from the National Bank, the demand for American currency in physical form sharply declined in the second quarter of 2025. As reported by 'Khvylia', the reasons for this refusal of dollar bills should be sought in more interesting currency prospects for Ukrainians.

The interest in cash foreign currency in general has also significantly weakened – the volume of purchases has fallen almost 3.5 times – from 2.8 to 0.8 billion dollars.

In particular, it is possible that the hryvnia has become a more attractive alternative to the dollar: not only is it stable, but deposits and other financial instruments in the national currency also bring more profitable income. There is also an increase in cashless currency transactions against the backdrop of declining demand for cash. All this may indicate a shift in currency preferences among Ukrainians.
