Ukraine to Launch Arms Exports, President Zelenskyy Announces
Defense Meeting Highlights Export Plans
According to Главком: On June 4, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy led a high-level defense meeting to assess the country's military needs and explore the potential for exporting weapons to strengthen the economy. The session included officials from the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and parliament. Zelenskyy stated:
“Today, I held a detailed and highly practical meeting on our armaments: what exactly is needed in larger quantities for our defense in Ukraine, and what can be sent for export to further bolster Ukraine and deepen our ties with the world-both immediately and over the long term.”
Weapons Exports and Their Strategic Role
Ukraine is also preparing to open its arms export market, with details being finalized at the state level. Kyiv has proposed a cooperation framework to partner countries called “Drone Deals.” Earlier, Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Presidential Office, warned about the risk of losing Ukraine's position in the global arms market. Zelenskyy noted that during the war, some Ukrainian companies have attempted to sell weapons to foreign partners without state coordination.
The president emphasized:
“Arms exports must become a long-term source of economic strength for Ukraine. We are working out the details with the NSDC, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and the parliamentary component to ensure no regulatory delays.”
This meeting underscores the importance of strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities amid the ongoing conflict and the need to establish effective mechanisms for exporting military products. Opening the arms market could be a key step for Ukraine in developing its economy and enhancing international relations. However, effective coordination between state institutions and the private sector will remain critical to mitigating risks and ensuring stability in the arms market.
In addition to strengthening military exports, President Zelenskyy is actively engaging in various strategic discussions, particularly focusing on diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to bolster Ukraine's position on the global stage. These efforts are crucial as the country navigates the complexities of the ongoing conflict while seeking to enhance international cooperation and support.
