Ukraine’s Response to Russia’s Latest Actions

According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the country’s intelligence services to formulate a response to Russia’s new measures in Transnistria. These measures simplify the process for residents of the breakaway region to obtain Russian citizenship. The decision came during a conversation with Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. By easing citizenship procedures, Moscow is executing a strategic maneuver with dual implications: first, Russian citizenship entails military service obligations for new citizens, and second, it effectively marks Moldovan territory as its own.

It is worth noting that a Russian military contingent and intelligence structures remain stationed in Transnistria, and they could be leveraged to advance Russian interests in the region. Zelensky also instructed the Foreign Ministry to coordinate a joint assessment of the situation with Moldovan authorities.

“They often tell various interlocutors in Moscow that they are supposedly only interested in Donbas. In reality, it is far from just Donbas. We must respond to this,” the president remarked.

Thanks to Special Operations Forces

Zelensky expressed gratitude to the Special Operations Forces, Unmanned Systems Forces, Missile Forces, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), and the Foreign Intelligence Service for their achievements over the past week. During this week, Russia used missiles manufactured in 2026-employing components from European, Japanese, and American producers-in a strike on Kyiv. Additionally, the first phase of a prisoner exchange under the 1,000-for-1,000 formula took place.

“Russia should focus more on its oil refineries and transshipment terminals, rather than on the citizens of other nations and the land of other peoples,” Zelensky added.

These developments underscore the escalating tensions in the region, where Russia’s easing of citizenship rules could lead to an increased military presence in Transnistria. Ukraine’s steps to assess the situation jointly with Moldova signal its readiness to collaborate with neighboring countries to counter potential threats. Furthermore, the intensification of Russian military operations, including the use of advanced missiles, highlights the serious challenges Ukraine faces in its fight for security and sovereignty.

In light of the escalating situation, it is crucial to understand how Ukraine is strengthening its defenses along the border with Transnistria. This is a direct response to potential threats arising from Russia's maneuvers in the region.
