Zelensky Open to Ceasefire Agreement Along Current Frontline as Oslo Talks Continue
Commitment to a Peace Deal
According to Рубрика — Політика: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed willingness to approve a peace agreement that would halt hostilities along the existing frontlines. In an interview with Fox News, he emphasized that a ceasefire is the crucial first step toward ending the conflict. Following this, Ukraine plans to engage with U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders to secure security guarantees aimed at preventing any future aggression against the country.
Zelensky highlighted that the Ukrainian parliament must back a referendum to ratify the peace deal. Before presenting the agreement for a vote, thorough negotiations between the conflicting parties are necessary. The president is open to talks in any format and on all topics, underscoring the importance of Ukraine’s direct involvement in shaping the terms to conclude the war. He also proposed a trilateral negotiation framework involving President Trump, himself, and Russian President Vladimir Putin, with a focus on addressing territorial issues.
Zelensky stated: "Yes. Now we need to stop, and I believe this is the real way to end this war."
He further stressed the need for peace accompanied by security guarantees that will eliminate any chance of renewed aggression in the future, calling this a priority for the Ukrainian people. On October 21, Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff is scheduled to deliver a document outlining potential security assurances to the Kremlin. On the same day, a three-hour meeting took place in Saint Petersburg between Russian President Putin and Witkoff.
Rebuilding the Nation
Zelensky also highlighted the urgent need to rebuild Ukraine and create conditions for the return of the estimated 9.5 million Ukrainians displaced abroad by the war. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finnish President Alexander Stubb participated in talks in Oslo, where Zelensky arrived on October 20. The Norwegian Prime Minister announced Witkoff’s planned visit to Russia.
The situation in Ukraine remains tense as President Zelensky seeks peaceful resolutions to the ongoing conflict. Engaging international partners and demonstrating readiness for dialogue are key factors that could shape future developments. Security challenges and the country’s reconstruction continue to be pressing concerns requiring coordinated efforts from both Ukraine and the global community.
In light of Zelensky's commitment to a ceasefire and peace negotiations, the ongoing discussions with international leaders play a crucial role in shaping Ukraine's future.
