Zelensky and First Lady Arrive in Norway for King Harald V’s Funeral and Strategic Talks on Aid to Ukraine

The monarch passed away on the morning of August 28 at the age of 89, making him Europe’s longest-reigning sovereign. Following his death, Crown Prince Haakon ascended the Norwegian throne as King Haakon VIII.
Key Objectives During the Visit
During his stay, President Zelensky is scheduled to meet with Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Their discussions will focus on continuing and expanding support for Ukraine, especially in strengthening air defense capabilities and securing aid for the upcoming winter months. In addition, Zelensky will engage with companies involved in developing the FREYJA anti-ballistic missile system, highlighting the importance of advanced defense technology in Ukraine’s security strategy.
The funeral service for King Harald V will begin at 1:00 PM local time. According to the Norwegian royal court, the king’s coffin will be moved from the Royal Palace at noon and escorted in a procession to Oslo Cathedral. The ceremony will gather members of royal families from around the world, as well as heads of state and government leaders.
“Olena and I have arrived in Norway. Important events lie ahead. Tomorrow, on behalf of all Ukrainians, we will express our gratitude to Norway during the farewell ceremony for His Majesty King Harald V,” President Zelensky stated.
