Zelenskyy Outlines Key Priorities on War's 1465th Day: Energy, Pensions, and Diplomacy
Key Focus Areas for the Ukrainian Government
According to ХВИЛЯ: In his address marking the 1465th day of the war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy detailed the government's primary objectives: safeguarding energy infrastructure, providing social support to citizens, and revitalizing the diplomatic corps. To implement these plans, he held meetings with government officials, energy experts, and military leaders, where the main topic was strategies for the restoration and protection of critical infrastructure. Zelenskyy stated that these plans must be finalized and submitted for approval to Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council.
Social Support and International Engagement
A significant aspect of the social support discussed in these meetings is an increase in payments for pensioners.
"Ukraine will conduct another annual indexation of pensions for more than ten million of our people. Pensioners will receive an increase of more than twelve percent. Funds for this are allocated, and the indexation should happen now, in March," Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
Furthermore, the president met with First Deputy Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko to confirm plans for raising social payments. He also held discussions with former Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin on strengthening Ukraine's positions in Europe and engaging with countries under Russian influence. As part of the diplomatic corps renewal, personnel rotations and new appointments are being prepared. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is actively working on candidates for appointing a special representative for Belarus and the Belarusian community in Europe, as, according to Zelenskyy, "a more active policy is needed."
It is important to note that Ukrainian businesses, through tax payments, fund at least half of all state and community expenditures during the war, underscoring their crucial role in supporting the national economy during this difficult period. This domestic economic resilience is vital as Ukraine continues to defend itself.
These recent statements from the Ukrainian president indicate an intensification of government work in critical areas requiring urgent action amid ongoing hostilities. The increase in social payments and pension indexation could be vital steps in supporting the population facing economic challenges. The renewal of the diplomatic corps and the activation of foreign policy also signal Ukraine's intent to strengthen its international standing and seek new allies in the context of the prolonged conflict.
