Massive Attack on Kyiv

According to 5 канал: In the early hours of July 19, Russia launched a large-scale assault on Kyiv and the surrounding region, an operation that had been prepared over several days. The bombardments damaged over a hundred structures. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the country's air defense forces intercepted 18 missiles and more than 100 drones, helping to limit the extent of the destruction.

The president stated that Russian forces had been stockpiling munitions specifically for this strike, with Kyiv and its region as primary targets.

“There were many ballistic missiles-today's attack is one of the largest of its kind using ballistic weapons,”

Zelenskyy noted. He also confirmed that impacts and fires occurred in five districts of Kyiv, resulting in one fatality and 13 injuries.

Ukrainian Government Response and International Support

Following the attack, cleanup and recovery operations are underway. President Zelenskyy held consultations with military leadership, including Joint Forces Commander Mykhailo Drapatyi, Deputy Chief of the General Staff Volodymyr Horbatiuk, and Air Assault Forces Commander Oleh Apostol. Discussions covered the frontline situation, Ukraine's future strategy, and potential steps to end the war with security guarantees for the nation.

President Zelenskyy also emphasized the continued implementation of a sanctions pressure plan against Russia.

“We are pushing forward with the long-range sanctions plan against Russia for the war. The oil industry and supplies for the occupation forces-these are our responses to what Russia is doing to Ukraine,”

he said. Ukraine will keep working with partners to intensify pressure on Moscow, aiming to force Russia to end the war on terms that ensure a dignified peace and guaranteed security for Ukraine.

The situation in Kyiv and its region underscores the persistent threat from Russia, demanding that Ukraine remain focused on defense efforts and international backing. This attack highlights the urgent need for continued diplomatic work to secure stability and safety in the area, as well as the critical role of sanctions against Russia as part of Ukraine's strategy to counter aggression. Restoring infrastructure and aiding those affected remain top priorities for Ukrainian authorities amid the ongoing hostilities.

In light of the recent attacks, President Zelenskyy provided further details on the extensive damage inflicted on residential areas, revealing that 64 apartments were destroyed as a result of the airstrikes. This significant loss underscores the ongoing threat to civilian life and infrastructure in Kyiv, highlighting the urgent need for continued international support and a strategic response to ensure the safety of the Ukrainian population.
