Ukrainian President's Announcement

According to Главком: In an interview with France TV, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy disclosed the official number of Ukrainian servicemen killed in action, which stands at 55,000. This figure includes both career military personnel and mobilized citizens. Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine also has a significant number of individuals considered missing in action. The disclosure provides a rare official insight into the human cost of the conflict, a figure often subject to intense speculation.

Back in February 2023, Zelenskyy had reported 46,000 military fatalities and 380,000 wounded. As part of his ongoing duties, the President signed Decree No. 96/2026, approving a new structure for Ukraine's Defense Plan. This new framework will replace the 2020 version, which was drafted before the onset of the full-scale invasion.

Energy Threats and New Strategies

Separately, Volodymyr Zelenskyy chaired an energy sector meeting following a massive aerial attack. On the night of February 3rd, Russia launched a large-scale strike on energy infrastructure using ballistic missiles. By decree, the previous Decree No. 61/2020 from March 3, 2020, was declared null and void. These strikes are part of a sustained campaign targeting Ukraine's critical civilian infrastructure.

The President's announcement regarding military fatalities underscores the severity of Ukraine's losses in the war and the growing necessity to adapt defense strategies in response to evolving challenges.

The revision of the Defense Plan's structure, coupled with active measures to protect energy infrastructure, indicates that Ukrainian authorities are striving to strengthen their position in the conflict and ensure national security. The death toll figure is also likely to influence public opinion and support for the war effort among the population.
