Zelenskyy Reveals Russian Losses in 'Spider Web' Special Operation
Honoring Participants After the 'Spider Web' Mission
According to Главком: On June 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recognized individuals involved in the special operation codenamed 'Spider Web.' Conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) one year ago, the mission concluded on June 1, 2025, and stands as a landmark event in the country's defense strategy. The operation struck five Russian military airbases, destroying or damaging 41 aircraft-a severe blow to Russia's strategic aviation capabilities.
Zelenskyy emphasized that 'Spider Web' was meticulously planned and executed using drones, which are significantly cheaper than the equipment they destroyed.
'Today, I awarded state honors of Ukraine to the people without whom the Spider Web would not have happened. We cannot name them-everything remains completely secret and will for a long time. This is already a historic operation of the Security Service of Ukraine, which was carefully prepared,' the President stressed.
Ukraine's Asymmetric Response
The operation serves as powerful evidence of Ukraine's ability to act asymmetrically on the battlefield.
'Never before had Russia lost such equipment, in such quantity, and due to strikes by incomparably cheaper drones. Ukraine has once again proven that it can act asymmetrically, defend itself actively, and truly creatively,' Zelenskyy stated.
He also underscored that Ukraine will continue finding ways to respond to aggression, thanking all soldiers and the SBU for their efforts.
Additionally, the President highlighted that Ukraine did not start the war and seeks peace.
'Now Ukraine literally applies long-range sanctions against Russia for this war every day. Thank you to all our warriors for their precision! Thank you to the SBU for long-range leadership! Glory to Ukraine!'
The 'Spider Web' special operation marked a critical phase in defending Ukraine's national interests and demonstrated the country's capacity to act effectively under challenging conditions.
The 'Spider Web' operation underscores Ukraine's evolving approach to warfare, emphasizing technological superiority and asymmetric tactics. Using drones to strike critical enemy assets could become a cornerstone of Ukraine's strategy in its ongoing fight for national security. This mission may also significantly impact the international community, showcasing Ukraine's ability to successfully counter aggression even against a larger military force. The importance of such actions, which can alter the conflict's trajectory, continues to highlight the need for support from international partners.
As Ukraine celebrates the success of the 'Spider Web' mission, the government remains vigilant against potential new threats. President Zelenskyy has indicated that Russia is preparing for further attacks, prompting Ukraine to enhance its air defense systems. This proactive approach underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the nation amid its strategic operations.
