Amendments to the law on the social and legal protection of servicemen
Draft law No. 13168 "On the social and legal protection of servicemen and their families" makes clarifications on the conditions for providing financial assistance during martial law.
- Death of military personnel in captivity;
- Establishment of disability;
- Partial loss of working capacity without recognition of disability.
Previously, the Ministry of Defense explained that the families of servicemen who died in captivity during martial law will receive a one-time financial assistance in the specified amount. With the amendments, the law clearly defines the right to receive assistance, emphasizing that it is not provided in case of voluntary surrender.
Extension of the payment period and other innovations
The law also extended the period for making payments in cases of injury, trauma, concussion, or illness that led to partial loss of working capacity without establishing disability - now this period is one year. The provision applies to both active servicemen and those who have already been discharged from service. The procedure for determining the amount of payments in the event of a change in the disability group has also been updated.
Law on improving the activities of the SBU
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky also signed the Law "On amending certain laws of Ukraine regarding the improvement of certain issues of the activities of the Security Service of Ukraine and enhancing its effectiveness in connection with participation in countering and deterring armed aggression against Ukraine." The law grants servicemen of the SBU the right to use weapons and military equipment in accordance with the procedure established for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the event of activities related to defense and national security.
The signed law is important for ensuring the social protection of the families of deceased servicemen and improving the activities of the SBU in the context of armed aggression against Ukraine. The new rules for providing assistance and the powers of servicemen will help improve the situation in these areas.
