According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that Ukraine's defense forces carried out strikes overnight on port oil infrastructure near St. Petersburg, as well as hitting a military target in Kronstadt. The distance from Ukraine's state border to the strike locations exceeds 850 kilometers. During the night of July 4, drones attacked port infrastructure in St. Petersburg, sparking a fire at the Petersburg Oil Terminal.

Purpose of the Attacks and Their Impact

The Petersburg Oil Terminal has an annual transshipment capacity of up to 12.5 million tons of fuel. President Zelensky noted that these strikes are part of long-range sanctions against Russia aimed at reducing its war funding.

“Tonight, our Ukrainian long-range sanctions against Russia for this war took effect near St. Petersburg. Ukraine's defense forces hit port oil infrastructure that generates money for Russia's war, and there were also strikes on Kronstadt-an important military target,” Zelensky stated.

Additionally, explosions were reported in Kronstadt, where ships of Russia's Baltic Fleet are based, as well as a strike on the port of Vysotsk in Leningrad Oblast. This is not the first attack on the Petersburg Oil Terminal: a previous strike occurred on June 3, the opening day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. According to Commander Robert Brovdi (Magyar) of the Unmanned Systems Forces, the June 3 strike marked the 20th successful hit on Russian oil infrastructure in 33 days.

“At that time, it was the 20th successful strike on Russian oil infrastructure in 33 days,” he added.

The president thanked everyone who ensures Ukraine's precision and executes the long-range sanctions plan, concluding his statement with: “Glory to Ukraine!”
