Zelenskyy Confirms Meeting with Abramovich, Sets Conditions for Peace
Zelenskyy’s Meeting with Roman Abramovich
According to ХВИЛЯ: Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that he met with Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich in Kyiv back in May. Abramovich acted as an intermediary between Ukraine and the Kremlin. During an interview with Britain’s Sky News, Zelenskyy revealed details of the encounter, noting that Abramovich arrived in Kyiv carrying a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Zelenskyy made it clear that Ukraine has no intention of surrendering the Donbas region. He stated:
“That was the key message. I said we will not leave there. We will not hand you victory in that way.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The Ukrainian president also agreed to a ceasefire based on the current front-line positions. This marks a significant step toward de-escalating the conflict.
Escalating Attacks and International Support
In addition, Zelenskyy pledged to step up long-range strikes inside Russia, emphasizing that Ukrainian drones are already reaching major cities such as St. Petersburg and Moscow. He declared:
“We will not just die in silence. We will fight back and grow stronger every day. We will bring their war back to the territory from which it came to us.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The interview was released just ahead of talks in London, where Zelenskyy joined French President Emmanuel Macron and German CDU leader Friedrich Merz at the residence of Keir Starmer. A new military aid package for Ukraine is expected to be announced during these discussions, which could significantly strengthen the country’s position in the conflict.
This meeting and Zelenskyy’s remarks underscore the ongoing tensions in Ukraine-Russia relations, as well as Ukraine’s determination to defend its territorial interests. Support from Western allies, particularly military assistance, is becoming increasingly critical amid rising hostilities. The anticipated delivery of new weapons from partners highlights the importance of international backing for Ukraine in its fight.
The ongoing dialogue surrounding peace efforts is further complicated by recent statements from Zelenskyy regarding Putin's willingness to negotiate.
