Zelensky Warns of Imminent Large-Scale Russian Assault After Two Civilian Ships Attacked Near Bulgaria
Escalating Military Tensions in the Black Sea Region
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a stark warning about an impending massive offensive planned by Russia, following attacks on two civilian vessels in Bulgarian waters. One ship was sunk, and the other suffered extensive damage. According to reports from the Ukrainian Navy and Bulgarian counterparts, the strikes involved a coordinated assault using both maritime and aerial drones. President Zelensky emphasized that Ukrainian Defense Forces had not conducted any operations in the area.
He also highlighted that just the day before, a ship was targeted in Romanian waters, and Russian drones continue to launch attacks in Moldova. Aggressions against civilian ships in partner nations’ waters, as well as assaults on Ukrainian ports, have become a persistent threat in the Black Sea.
“Russia’s intent is clear-they aim to continuously ramp up the level of escalation.”
In response, Zelensky has directed the Armed Forces, Ministry of Defense, intelligence agencies, and other services to intensify cooperation with international allies. Discussions at the military command center focused on electronic warfare (EW) capabilities, noting that EW systems have successfully neutralized a significant share of Russian "Shahed" drones. Plans were made to bolster the protection of critical infrastructure through enhanced EW measures, with manufacturers, the Ministry of Defense, and the armed forces receiving new assignments related to this effort.
Advancing Ukraine’s Long-Range Strike Capabilities
Further strategic planning at the command level addressed the development of Ukraine’s long-range strike forces for the coming year, including funding, operational scope, and the capacity to respond proportionally to each Russian action.
“It is crucial to have the political will-especially from the United States, Europe, and other partners-to support this.”
President Zelensky called for unified global action to safeguard lives, asserting that “the world is bigger than Russian evil.” He reaffirmed that “Ukrainian services and our Air Forces stand ready to respond to the extent our defense capabilities allow.” This underscores the vital role of international support in maintaining security.
These developments highlight a sharp intensification of hostilities in the Black Sea corridor, where Russia’s aggressive maneuvers are escalating. Attacks on civilian shipping not only mark a dangerous escalation of the conflict but also pose significant risks to maritime safety in this strategically important region. Ukraine’s ongoing collaboration with global defense and security partners remains essential to countering Russia’s hostile actions and preserving regional stability.
As tensions rise in the Black Sea, it is crucial to understand the broader implications of Ukraine's ongoing military preparations.
