A Shift in Russian Attack Tactics

According to Главком: During a private meeting with journalists, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined a significant shift in Russian attack tactics. He stated that strikes may now focus not only on energy infrastructure but also on other critical systems, specifically logistics and water supply. The meeting was also attended by 'Hlavkom'. Zelenskyy noted that this past winter, Ukraine endured regular Russian attacks on energy facilities, which caused major difficulties in providing heating and generating electricity. This warning comes as Ukraine prepares for a potential new phase of Russia's campaign to cripple civilian infrastructure.

Potential Future Targets for Russian Strikes

According to Ukrainian intelligence, the following are likely targets for future Russian attacks:

  • bridges
  • dams
  • hydroelectric power stations
  • pumping stations
  • drinking water supply systems
“Judging from the documents we have received from intelligence, the 'Russians' will strike at logistics – at railways and other targets. They will also strike at water supply,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

Preparations for these potential attacks are ongoing, involving the Armed Forces, the Air Force, local authorities, and communities.

To protect critical facilities, the heads and mayors of settlements must ensure maximum protection for vital systems, without which sewage and drinking water supply cannot function. “In every village and city, heads and mayors must deal with this. They must know what is most critical for them – without which there will be no sewage or drinking water. Maximum protection is needed,” the President stated.

Furthermore, Ukraine continues to actively work with countries also under attack from the Iranian regime and participates in all formats of interaction with international partners. Key areas for strengthening the protection of critical objects include:

  • air defense
  • integration of defense systems
  • physical fortification of important infrastructure

The President's statement underscores the serious threats facing Ukraine in wartime and the need for a comprehensive approach to protecting critical infrastructure. Involving local authorities in the protection process reflects a drive to decentralize responsibility, which could improve the effectiveness of responses to potential attacks. Meanwhile, international cooperation and adaptation to new threats remain key elements of Ukraine's strategy on the path to ensuring national security.

As Ukraine braces for potential escalations in Russian military tactics, it is essential to understand the implications of targeting critical infrastructure. Recent reports indicate that water supply systems could be among the next objectives.
