Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Letter

According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump and the U.S. Congress, alerting them to a severe shortfall in air defense systems in Ukraine. Dispatched by Ukraine’s Ambassador to the U.S., Olha Stefanishyna, the correspondence underscores the escalating dangers posed by Russia, which has intensified its aerial assaults on Ukrainian territory.

In the letter, Zelenskyy voiced concerns over difficulties in securing weaponry through the PURL program. He urged the United States to supply Ukraine with Patriot PAC-3 missiles and additional systems, stating:

“When it comes to missile defense, we rely on our friends. For protection against ballistic missiles, we depend almost entirely on the United States.”

Zelenskyy also emphasized:

“The current pace of deliveries under the PURL program no longer matches the real threat we face. I ask for your help in defending Ukraine’s airspace from Russian missiles.”

He called on the president and Congress to ‘stay engaged in this process’ and ‘help us secure this vital means of protection against Russian terror.’

Escalating Tensions

Against the backdrop of rising tensions, Russia’s Foreign Ministry warned of systematic strikes on Ukrainian defense industry facilities in Kyiv, referencing so-called ‘decision-making centers.’ In response, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry stated that the Kremlin is attempting to use intimidation to pressure the U.S. and international partners. Additionally, Poland threatened Russia with consequences if it attacks diplomatic missions in Kyiv.

The letter was addressed to:

  • U.S. President Donald Trump
  • The U.S. Congress
  • The White House
  • House Speaker Mike Johnson

Zelenskyy stressed the critical need for Patriot PAC-3 missiles and additional systems to shield Ukraine from Russian threats.

This letter reflects Ukraine’s growing anxiety over its security as Russian attacks increase. Zelenskyy’s appeals to the U.S. highlight the importance of international support in strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses as the country continues to resist Russian aggression. Meanwhile, Russia’s threats to strike Ukrainian industrial sites signal an escalation in the conflict and underscore the urgent need for intensified diplomatic efforts to prevent further hostile actions.
