Zelenskyy Arrives in Saudi Arabia for Talks on Security, Energy, and a Drone Exchange Initiative
Ukrainian President’s Visit to Saudi Arabia
According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has landed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for an official working visit, where he is scheduled to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud. This marks his second trip to the country in the past two months, with discussions focusing on key agreements related to security, energy, and infrastructure.
Zelenskyy stated: 'I have arrived in Saudi Arabia, where I will meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.'
He emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between Ukraine and Saudi Arabia: 'Today, we are advancing agreements with Saudi Arabia in the areas of security, energy, and infrastructure. It is crucial that this strengthening is mutual. I value the meaningful cooperation between our nations.'
Cooperation Priorities and Appeals from Other Countries
Additionally, the Ukrainian president noted that several countries have reached out to Ukraine, including:
- The United States of America
- Saudi Arabia
- Qatar
- The United Arab Emirates
- Bahrain
- Jordan
- Kuwait
Zelenskyy said: 'The United States of America approached us regarding their bases in Middle Eastern countries. We have also been contacted by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait. We are already working with some of them, and our expert teams are on the ground: assessing the situation and sharing invaluable experience.'
As part of the visit, Ukraine is also pursuing an exchange of interceptor drones for air defense missiles. Ukrainian specialists have already successfully struck Iranian drones in a Middle Eastern country on multiple occasions. However, direct sales of Ukrainian interceptor drones to regional nations have been blocked at the state leadership level.
Zelenskyy’s trip to Saudi Arabia is therefore critical for advancing bilateral relations and cooperation in these key sectors.
This visit is part of Ukraine’s broader diplomatic push to strengthen international ties and attract investment into vital economic areas. Collaboration on security and energy with Middle Eastern countries could significantly impact regional stability and Ukraine’s energy independence. At the same time, Ukraine’s growing international engagement reflects its ambition to integrate into global processes and explore new development opportunities, especially amid ongoing security challenges.
As President Zelenskyy navigates the complexities of international relations, understanding his broader strategy in the Middle East becomes essential. In a recent update, he elaborated on the rationale behind his regional engagements and the absence of dialogue with Israel, shedding light on the intricate dynamics at play.
