Ukrainian President Issues Decree to Honor Military Unit

According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree bestowing an honorary title upon the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade. Under Decree No. 213/2026, this unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces will now be known as the "Lyman" Brigade. The decision aims to revive the historical traditions of the national military and recognizes the brigade's exemplary performance in defending Ukraine's territorial integrity and independence. The unit's new full designation is the 63rd Separate Mechanized Lyman Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.

Military and Civilian Personnel Receive State Honors

Separately, on February 25, the president signed decrees conferring the title of Hero of Ukraine upon members of the Security and Defense Forces. These decrees also saw defenders awarded with various state orders and medals, and granted military ranks. The awards included:

  • The Cross of Combat Merit
  • The Order of Merit
  • The Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky
  • The Order for Courage
  • The Order of Danylo Halytsky
  • Various medals

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko was awarded the Order of Merit, Third Class.

A significant aspect of these decrees was the state recognition of volunteers, energy workers, teachers, medical personnel, journalists, cultural figures, and athletes. This recognition coincided with the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion, highlighting the broad societal effort supporting Ukraine's war effort. Such honors are a common practice for nations at war, serving to bolster national morale and unity.
