Zelensky on possible cancellation of the curfew: due to the energy crisis
Possible cancellation of the curfew in Ukraine
According to Главком: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the possible cancellation of the curfew in some cities during the emergency situation in the energy sector, which arose due to Russian strikes and difficult weather conditions. This decision was discussed at a meeting held on January 14, 2026, in the context of serious problems faced by Ukrainian cities.
The situation in the energy sector
Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, and Kryvyi Rih are currently experiencing a difficult situation in the energy sector. A massive attack that took place on January 9, 2026, led to emergency power outages in Kyiv. As a result, hundreds of houses in the capital were left without heating, complicating life for residents during the winter period.
Zelensky noted that in emergency conditions, it may be possible to remove the curfew for some cities and communities. In addition, he instructed to increase the capacity for electricity imports to improve the situation in the energy sector. The president emphasized that Kyiv is currently facing the most difficult situation in energy and public utilities in all four years of full-scale war.
“The cancellation of the curfew may be an important step to ease the lives of residents of cities suffering from the consequences of the energy crisis.” - President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky
This decision, if implemented, could allow people to move more freely and seek alternative ways of obtaining heat and electricity. At the same time, increasing electricity imports may help stabilize the situation in the energy sector, but will require quick actions and coordination with international partners to ensure necessary supplies in the context of a complicated security situation.
